As a new initiative in 2017, PIER is organising a series of career information webinars highlighting some of the careers that pharmacists hold in industry. The first two webinar recordings are now posted in the Career Resources area of the PIER website. Access is restricted to PIER members.
The PIER Committee is delighted to have been awarded the EIPG President's Award at the recent General Assembly in Malta. This award is in recognition of PIER's support in rolling out joint educational webinars for EIPG members over the past year. Helen Naddy (PIER Secretary) accepted the award on behalf of PIER. The Committee would like to acknowledge the technological support of UCC School of Pharmacy in facilitating these webinars.
There are eight candidates running for five pharmacist positions on the PSI Council. The ballot papers will be distributed by Tuesday 4th April 2017. Completed ballot papers must returned to the Returning Officer by 5pm on Wednesday, 19th April 2017. We encourage all PIER members who are on the PSI register to vote. The IIOP is currently seeking expressions of interest from registered pharmacists who would like to be considered for involvement in the ongoing development and delivery of the IIOP ePortfolio Review. PIER in collaboration with EIPG and UCC School of Pharmacy are organising a webinar on Tuesday 14th March 2017 @ 4pm. Speakers are Anne Hayes, Inspection Manager in the Compliance Dept at the HPRA and Dr Claude Farrugia, President of the European Industrial Pharmacists Group who has experience as a contract Qualified Person and is a Quality Assurance and Regulatory Affairs consultant. 2017 Essay Competition
The 2017 UKICRS Essay Competition aims to promote scientific communication and creative thinking within the general arena of pharmaceutical sciences and drug delivery. Original essays are now invited that address one of the following topics:
  • ‘Pharmaceutical perspectives on the human microbiome’
  • Social media and science – friend or foe?’
  • 'New targets for drug delivery’
  • 'Smart health for the smartphone society’

The 'Falsified Medicines Directive' webinar has been rescheduled to Tuesday 14th March 2017 @ 4pm. Anne Hayes (Inspection Manager, HPRA) and Professor Claude Farrugia (EIPG President & University of Malta) will present. Registration details will be available in early March 2017.
