Congrats to PIER member Dr Mike Morris (Director of Scientific Affairs, HPRA) on his Professional Excellence Award at the Helix Health Pharmacist Awards on 21st November 2015. His contribution to the Irish regulatory environment is immense. And he has contributed hugely to the IMB/HPRA reputation at the EMA, Ph Eur & ICH table.
For those members who weren't able to attend the PIER CPD meeting and AGM last Saturday, here is the presentation given by Professor Anne Marie Healy (School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences, TCD) on the integrated MPharm programme which has just commenced APPEL MPharm presentation PIER Nov 2015.
Also a leaflet explaining the placement opportunities in the industry sector Integrated MPharm programme leaflet_April 2015.
Welcome to Vanessa Lyons (HPRA), Olivia Murphy (Quintiles), Dr Katie Ryan (UCC School of Pharmacy) and Ita Walsh (Compliance Group) who are joining the PIER Committee. Thanks to David Carroll, Dr Brendan Griffin, Jenny Loughney & Dr Catherine McHugh who have stepped down for their contribution to PIER over the past number of years. Cathal Gallagher has now assumed the Treasurer role.
See an article (CAASP Process Oct 2015) recently published in the IPU Review by Matthew Lynch (RCSI) outlining the CAASP process for recruiting interns in 2016/17.
2015/16 has seen the highest number of industry intern placements yet with 17 placements in 9 industry sites plus 4 in the HPRA. Interest in industry careers has increased in recent years. PIER can probably take some credit for this as the committee has focused a lot of its efforts into career events (four organised over past 2.5 years with another planned in RCSI on 26th Nov 2015) to raise awareness among students and recently qualified of the many roles a pharmacist can hold in industry. Intern and summer placements are an important way for students to gain some insights into a career in industry. If any industry based pharmacist would be in position to offer intern placement(s) in 2016/17 or even 2017/18, please contact PIER (firstname.lastname@example.org) or Darragh Scannell in RCSI (email@example.com).
